of music by Talking Heads and their individual members. Please note
that this list is not complete; If you have some information to

Only "real" bootlegs (silver CD's and vinyl) are listed
in the bootleg survey. For bootlegs on tape and CDr's, see below.
About bootleg trading
If you want to trade bootlegs on CDr, tape or DAT, you can post
a message in the marketplace section of the bulletin
board on this web site.
If you have shows to trade (not necessarily Talking Heads related),
feel free to contact me. Here

included) in rtf format. Please note that I only trade for shows
I'm really interested in (and I'm rather picky ;-)

About downloading bootlegs
To share bootlegs in MP3 format with other fans, Jason Drury put
on a FTP-server for Talking Heads (and related) file sharing called
City of Dreams. You can reach the archive here: ftp://th_list:th_list@63.165.222.186
(best way to upload or download tracks is to use a FTP-client such
as CuteFTP)

** Nov 14, 2001 : Jason reported that "City of Dreams"
has been shut down:
"You probably have guessed that something
was up, but I wanted to wait a week or so to make sure that the
situation wasn't going to change. It looks like my DSL connection,
and consequently the City of Dreams, has finally bit the dust -
it was a pretty good run if you consider that I've been getting
DSL free from a bankrupt company for the last couple of months.
So, like Walt Disney's head, the CoD is frozen
for the time being, awaiting a glorious ressurection when technology
finally reaches a point where this is possible."
About
bootleg buying
The bootlegs featured in the Talking Heads bootleg survey were
all (illigally) released by bootleg companies. Most of these companies
are out of business these days and their bootlegs are very hard
to find (as it is prohibited to sell them).
Sometimes people offer bootlegs on auctions sites such as eBay
(although eBay's rules forbid sellers to offer such items). Look
for descriptions like "rare", "live" and "import"
and make sure (ask the seller prior to bidding !) you are bidding
on an original CD and not a CD-r copy. This is not for people who
look for bargains.
Bootlegs on CD-r are worth next to nothing, so that's what you
should pay for them. Fair traders have a policy of never selling
bootlegs from their collection.
Taping policy
Talking Heads never had an official taping policy - it was simply
prohibited to record any shows. Look at the bootleg lists that are
floating around to see how much impact this had on avid tapers ;-)
Tom Tom Club allows audience taping (no soundboard)
and photography. Read Tina Weymouth's
statement on the taping/photography policy of Tom Tom Club
David Byrne does not have a taping policy; recording-
and photo equipment is prohibited by default and it's up to the
personnel of the club to decide wether or not they let you in/remove
you/confiscate your equipment. So be carefull.
